a dispatch from the field

Our resident artist is away for the week participating in an invitation only art-a-palooza happening (the best description I could come up with).

She is at the former location of Black Mountain College, a place some consider the birthplace of the American avant guard participating in META

Here's our first report from the field:

Dear friends,
Enough with the art, bring on the craft!
This year let's make some toy boats and float them on Lake Eden. I'll be bringing a couple of basic designs and some materials. Feel free to bring your own boat-building schemes and supplies too. We can work on our boats together on Monday and Tuesday and show them off on Wednesday.

The Rules:
In keeping with the Regatta's primary theme, "Quisquis navi vestri navis" or "Whatever floats your boat," there are very few rules:

1. No Head Starts
You can bring materials with which to construct your boat, but the actual boat-building must be done on-site during Meta Seven.

2. Leave No Trace
Your boat can be wind-powered or other-powered (e.g., solar, rubber band, mousetrap, candle), and you can use whatever materials you want in its construction, but you are responsible for making certain that your boat doesn't harm Lake Eden or residents thereof.

3. All Must Have Prizes
There shall be at least as many prize categories as there are entrants.

The Prizes:
In accordance with Rule Number Three, on Wednesday at cocktail hour bragging rights will be awarded in the following categories:

Best Team-built Boat
Best Lone Boat
Best Kid's Boat
Zen Boat
Buckminster Fuller Boat
Most Beautiful Boat
Jolie-laide Boat
Sad and Sorry Boat
Best Alternative Energy Boat
Au Naturel Boat
Lightest Craft
and so on...
